ABOUT
Styes Treatment at CARE
At the CARE Clinic, we offer an advanced solution for the treatment of styes using Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) combined with Photobiomodulation (LLLT). This non-invasive method is designed to quickly and effectively alleviate the symptoms of styes, while reducing the chances of recurrence.
What is a stye?
A stye is an acute inflammation of the eyelid glands, caused primarily by a bacterial infection. It can be in the form of a small red and painful pimple at the base of the eyelashes (external stye) or on the inside of the eyelid (internal stye). Styes are often caused by staph bacteria and can cause swelling, redness, and significant pain.
Initial Assessment
The process begins with a comprehensive assessment of the condition of the patient's eyelids:
- Visual examination: The optometrist looks at the eyelid to identify the presence of styes or other abnormalities.
- Meibomian gland scan: Use of advanced technologies to visualize the meibomian glands and assess their condition.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment
IPL therapy is used to target abnormal blood vessels and clogged glands, helping to reduce inflammation and liquefy solidified secretions. This treatment has demonstrated its effectiveness in the rapid resolution of styes:
- Mechanism of Action: IPL heats the meibomian glands to clear obstructions and reduce inflammation.
- Results: Patients often see an improvement in symptoms within a few sessions, with complete resolution in 2 to 3 weeks in most cases.
Photobiomodulation (LLLT)
Photobiomodulation (LLLT) uses low-energy LED lights to stimulate cells and promote healing:
- Reducing Inflammation: LLLT has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, which helps to reduce the size and pain of styes.
- Cell Stimulation: Light stimulates the mitochondria of cells, thus increasing cellular activity and promoting tissue regeneration.
Benefits of Combined Treatment
- Non-invasive: No incisions, medication, or injections required.
- Efficiency: Rapid improvement in symptoms with a significant reduction in inflammation.
- Comfort: The treatment is well tolerated and minimizes discomfort.
Post-Treatment Follow-up and Care
After treatment, patients should follow some recommendations to prevent recurrences:
- Eyelid hygiene: Use of cleaning wipes to maintain the cleanliness of the eyelids.
- Blepharitis control: Patients with blepharitis should follow regular cleaning routines to avoid new infections.
