ABOUT
Facial and Ocular Rosacea Treatment at CARE
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that occurs with redness on the face and sometimes on the neck and chest. It can also affect the eyes, causing what is known as ocular rosacea. At the CARE Clinic, we use OptiLight technology by Lumenis to effectively treat facial and ocular rosacea, offering a comprehensive solution for this condition.
Understanding Rosacea
Facial rosacea: Facial rosacea is characterized by persistent redness, visible blood vessels, pimples, and burning or stinging sensations on the skin. It can vary in severity and often, flare-ups are triggered by certain environmental or dietary factors.
Ocular rosacea: Ocular rosacea affects the eyes, causing symptoms such as dry eyes, irritation, eyelid redness, and inflammation of the meibomian glands. This form of rosacea can cause eye complications if not treated properly.
Link between facial and ocular rosacea
Patients with facial rosacea often have symptoms of ocular rosacea. Both forms of rosacea share similar inflammatory mechanisms, and it is common for ocular symptoms to appear before or after cutaneous manifestations. Therefore, it is crucial to treat both aspects of rosacea to achieve complete and lasting relief.
OptiLight treatment by Lumenis
OptiLight for Facial Rosacea: Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy with OptiLight uses pulses of controlled light to target abnormal blood vessels and reduce inflammation. This treatment reduces redness, improves skin tone and stimulates collagen production, thus limiting recurrences.
OptiLight for Ocular Rosacea: For ocular rosacea, IPL helps clear clogged meibomian glands, reducing inflammation and improving tear quality. This non-invasive treatment is well tolerated and offers lasting results with little or no recovery time.
Treatment Process
- Initial Assessment: A comprehensive examination to assess the condition of the skin and eyes, including a meibomian gland scan for patients with ocular rosacea symptoms.
- Treatment Sessions: Each IPL treatment session lasts approximately 15 minutes. Generally, several sessions are required to obtain optimal results.
- Photobiomodulation (LLLT): In addition to IPL, photobiomodulation uses LED lights to further reduce inflammation and promote healing of ocular and skin tissue.
Benefits of OptiLight Treatment
- Non-invasive: No surgery or injections required.
- Proven effectiveness: Significant reduction in facial and ocular rosacea symptoms.
- Safety: Well tolerated procedures with little to no downtime.
